Katherine is an RAD and ISTD trained dancer, and dance teacher. She has danced professionally in Cabaret shows in Japan, and has performed in musicals ( The national dutch tour of 'Crazy For you', 'Into the Woods', '42nd Street', 'Bye Bye Birdie'...to name a few) variety shows and televised awards shows overseas.  Whilst living in Holland for 7 years, Katherine taught ballet, tap and jazz to dutch children and adults - from tiny 2 year olds to grandmothers.  Katherine has been trained and successfully examined at the highest levels in all forms of dance - RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern dance and ISTD Tap dance.  She has also completed high level exams in both Singing and Drama with AMEB and Trinity College London, and has  completed AMEB exams in both Piano and music Theory.  She also holds a bachelor degree in Music Theatre, and is currently studying her Masters of teaching in both Primary teaching and Secondary teaching in Dance, Drama and Music.  Katherine created and co-managed an R&B / Disco band 'Groovecentrix' for some years, and most recently has worked as a fill-in singer for the 'Blues Brothers Tribute Show Australasia Tour', playing the role of 'Twiggy'.  She is also the mother of a  10 year old and 5 year old who both love to dance and sing!

Shane has taught and performed both throughout Australia and internationally. Some o f the companies and events he has worked for include 'Silvers Circus', 'Indigenous Hip Hop projects', 'Off the Street Hip Hop', 'Fun Fit', 'Monster Energy', Cultural Infusion', 'Shadow Wars', 'Australian Breakdance Championships, 'Masters Jam', 'Space Jam' and 'Freestyle Session Australia'.

Bethany Adams

As a dancer and a teacher, Bethany believes in expression through movement. That there are no wrong moves and that ALL our bodies are capable of moving beautifully as an extension of our feelings, experiences and connections with ourselves, each other and nature. Bethany has danced since a very young age and has trained in many genres from belly dancing to tap, but her real passion is Contemporary Dance. Bethany has performed in multiple musicals and independent and Melbourne based Dance festivals including the Fringe festival. She studied Dance at Deakin University and has a Batchelor of Contemporary Arts. She is also a qualified Teacher ranging from Pre-school to Year 12 and is overjoyed to combine her passions of Teaching and Dance at The Emerald City School of Dance. Bethany has a particular interest in Choreography, Improvisation, Contact Improvisation and Dance movement therapy for Special Needs and Trauma recovery.

Tarquinn O'Toole

 

Teacher

Ballet 9-11 yrs

Lyrical 9-11 yrs / Lyrical 13-15 yrs

Tarquinn has been through the blood, sweat and tears of the dance world, having over 15 years of dancing experience. Tarquinn has attended multiple classes with NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts), trained with local theatre groups such as GemCo and 1812 Theatre as well as studying VCE Dance and receiving top results in her class. Her favourite type of dance is Contemporary/Lyrical as it uses movement to create a story and a piece of art for the stage. She currently studies at RMIT, doing an Advanced Diploma of Professional Screenwriting and hopes to continue down the Arts Industry for a future career. Tarquinn has been with ECSD for a little over a year and has helped Miss Katherine with choreography and wrangling the littlies! She cannot wait to continue her journey with Katherine and the ECSD students :)

Bronwyn Gardner

Bronwyn has been involved in local theatre productions such as 'Pirates of Penzance', 'Guys and Dolls', 'Half a Sixpence' and 'Oliver', as well as many other original plays done with Gemco Theatre, between 1989 and 1992.  From ages 8-13, Bronwyn was instructed in Marching, which involves co-ordinated, patterned movement displays.   In her time Marching, she competed in regional, state and national titles, winning 187 medals. She also trained Marching teams aged 4-12 years,

Having also been trained in classical piano, Bronwyn subsequently went on to teach beginner piano. In more recent years Bronwyn started doing ECSD's Adult Jazz and Glee Club classes and has performed onstage and assisted backstage in concerts.  Bronwyn's gentle and understanding nature, quick learning capabilities and keen eye for detail is a very welcome help to Emerald City School of Dance.

Dzintra Boyd

Teacher

Dzintra Boyd has over 20 years of dance experience including Creative Dance, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Contemporary and has previously worked as a Kinder Dance Teacher. D zintra has performed in dozens of productions from Shakespeare's 'Othello' to 42nd Street the musical.  She studied a double major of Dance and Drama at Deakin University in the BAchelor of Contemporary Arts and more recently has studied Expressive Arts Psychotherapy to pursue her interest in the many healing properties of art, dance and movement on mental health.  Dzintra enjoys many aspects of performance, not only on the stage but also behind the scenes and has worked as a stage manager for several dance schools over the years.
